Two Hospitalized After Truck Crashes 40 Yards Into Woods Off Surfside Road
Jason Graziadei •
Two occupants of a Ford-150 truck were hospitalized early Monday morning after veering off Surfside Road and crashing deep into the woods near the Boulevard intersection around 1:30 a.m.
First responders said the truck may have been traveling as fast as 90 mph headed toward Surfside Beach when it crashed, and the two occupants are "lucky to be alive" after the truck careened 40 yards into the woods, narrowly missing a utility pole. All of the truck's air bags were deployed, the windshield smashed, and the entire front end had been ripped away in the crash. The driver told first responders he swerved to avoid hitting a deer.
Family members of the two occupants showed up at the accident scene, where Nantucket Police, Massachusetts State Police, and Nantucket Fire Department personnel all responded.
We'll be gathering more details on this accident today.
