The family and friends of Baxter Waldman, the 16-year old Nantucket High School student who lost his life in a tragic motorcycle accident on Dec. 8, gathered at Nobadeer Beach late Sunday afternoon to honor him.

Many of Waldman's classmates, friends, and family created a memorial near the site of the accident at the intersection of Milestone Road and New South Road. Waldman's mother, Elise Norton, felt it would be poetic and just to take the flowers at the site and toss them into the ocean at sunset.

“I wanted to come up with an appropriate way to clean up and dispose of all the flowers (his classmates) have been leaving for Baxter," Norton said prior to the celebration of her son's life. "This seemed as poetic as I could think of. I’m looking forward to meeting with them again and having this beautiful tribute to him.”

The Current was invited to attend the celebration and took some photos to share with the community.

There will be a celebration of Baxter Waldman’s life at the Nantucket Hotel on Tuesday, Dec. 20th at 3 p.m. The community is invited to attend.
