The Nantucket Memorial Airport announced Monday morning that Warren Smith is no longer the airport manager after just one year on the job and will be replaced with Preston Harimon, who is assuming the role of acting airport manager.

"Effective June 24, 2026, Warren Smith is no longer employed by the Nantucket Memorial Airport," airport commission chair Art Gasbarro told the Current in a statement. "We thank Mr. Smith for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors. Preston Harimon, a longtime Airport employee and Assistant Manager, has been appointed Acting Airport Manager."

The airport commission announced during a January 2025 meeting that they intended to offer Smith the position, and Smith officially assumed the role in March of 2025. Smith was hired to replace Noah Karberg, who announced he was stepping down in August of 2024 but stayed on to ease the transition for Smith.

Harimon is a long-time airport employee who has worn many hats and been an island resident for decades. He was hired as the assistant airport manager in February of 2023. Harimon first came to the island in 2001 and 2002 as a seasonal airport worker providing help on the ramp. He was hired full-time before moving back to Nebraska, his home state, about 18 months later.

It wasn't long until Harimon and his wife had the urge to return to Nantucket. They moved back to the island in 2004. Harimon jumped back on the airport's staff and has been on island ever since - serving as an integral part of the airport's operations in a variety of capacities over the past 22 years.

The Current reached out to Smith and Harimon but have not received a reply. Gasbarro directed the Current to his statement and had no further comment.
