What Were Two Army Chinooks Doing At Nantucket Airport?
Jason Graziadei •

Two Army CH-47 Chinook helicopters roared over the island Tuesday evening, traveling just 100 feet above the ground before landing at Nantucket Memorial Airport around 7 p.m.
The sound caught the attention of hundreds of island residents, and many wondered whether their presence was related to the ICE raid earlier in the day. Shortly after the helicopters landed, a row of cars and people lined the airport fence along Monohansett Road to get a look at them.
It turns out the two Chinooks were simply refueling, and their crews were taking a break to have some dinner on the island. The choppers were part of the Army’s 10th Mountain Division, and had flown all the way from Fort Drum in upstate New York before deciding to take a break on Nantucket.
As the Chinooks were refueling, the crew approached the airport fence to give a special gift to a boy who had ridden his bicycle to the airport to see the helicopters. Island fifth grader Finn Getoor got a thrill he won’t soon forget when the Chinook crews gave him their unit patches.
Two Army Chinook helicopters landed on Nantucket tonight (a very rare if not unprecedented occurrence).
