Woman In Moped Crash Transferred Off-Island By MedFlight

A woman was hospitalized Sunday afternoon following a moped crash on Madaket Road, and later transported by Boston MedFlight helicopter to a hospital on the mainland.

The Nantucket Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of 148 Madaket Road just before 2 p.m. yesterday for what was initially described as a motorcycle accident. They discovered it was actually a moped, and the female operator, who was wearing a helmet, was the only person involved in the accident. She was rushed to Nantucket Cottage Hospital and first responders were heard on emergency radio traffic requesting a MedFlight transfer for the victim.

A source told the Current the woman was indeed transferred by helicopter, but the extent of her injuries was not immediately known.
