Worcester Polytechnic Institute Students Evaluating Nantucket Community Pool Usage
Nantucket Current •
Four students from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) are currently working with Nantucket Community School (NCS) staff to evaluate the usage of the Nantucket Community Pool at the high school.
“The Nantucket Community Pool is a valuable resource for our community,” said NCS Executive Director Alicia Graziadei. “Our facility is open six days a week, Monday through Saturday, and offers programming for all ages. We try our best to provide programming and space for all our island residents and visitors; however, this has become increasingly difficult as our population continues to grow.”
The WPI group has created a survey to accomplish their goal. The survey is available here: https://bit.ly/3UNv880. Responses are anonymous, and survey participants can enter for a chance to win a free one-month pool membership in a raffle. Survey results will help shape the future of the pool and its programming.
The student group, consisting of Aidan Carter-Frem, Lillian Hanly, Elizaveta Tcherniaeva, and Justin Yip, is one of five teams of WPI students working on research projects with various Nantucket organizations.
“Since 2008, 320 students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) have conducted 89 projects through the Nantucket Project Center in collaboration with various local organizations and town committees and departments,” said Dominic Golding, Director of the Nantucket Project Center. “These projects have covered a wide variety of topics in areas such as energy conservation, museum studies, parks and recreation, coastal erosion, parking, sustainable agriculture, affordable housing, facilities management, light pollution, and town trees.”
To learn more about the WPI Project Center, residents are encouraged to visit their website: https://wp.wpi.edu/nantucket/. The public is invited to attend the final project presentations on December 10 at 1 p.m. in the Community Room at 4 Fairgrounds Road.
