Adopt A Planter Helps Beautify The OIH
Kathy Grieder •
To the editor: The Friends of Our Island Home want to recognize Julie Hilberg Hunt for her years of service in beautifying the entrance to Our Island Home. Julie has been donating her time and flowers to do this for several years. In the past, some of the cost was absorbed through a grant from The Garden Club that was awarded to Friends of Our Island Home. After the grant funds ran out, Julie has been doing it as a “random act of kindness."
Recently, the Friends of Our Island Home have advertised an Adopt a Planter program on social media. The purpose of this project was to bring beauty to the patio at Our Island Home. Several volunteers came forward and adopted a planter. Julie Hilberg Hunt has recently come forward and offered to adopt the remaining planters and also to care for all of them for the remainder of the season.
At this time, we want to publicly thank Julie, and everyone else that participated in our Adopt a Planter program, for donating the beautiful flowers for the entrance and the patio for the enjoyment of the residents, their families and the staff of Our Island Home.
