Airport's Ramp Expansion Is Unnecessary

Peter McCausland •

To the editor,

Expanding capacity, whether it be airport ramps, traffic circles or steamship runs, is no substitute for planning. Despite the INKY’S recent editorial saying we need to accept that Nantucket of old is lost forever, there is still hope if the community starts to take stands on important issues.

We are way beyond Nantucket’s carrying capacity in so many ways, and we need to pull back. There is no reason why big planes can’t live with a reservation system for parking spaces and, if no reservation is available, park at a mainland airport.

I hope the abandonment of this airport ramp expansion plan will be such a stand and that the neighbors can live in peace.
