Bring Back The Water Fight

To the editor: We come from the high desert of Central Oregon; the Fourth of July water festivities downtown are a highlight that draws us year after year. It's obviously a tradition for thousands of families; we were incredibly disappointed this year to learn it wasn't happening.

In Oregon, we live in an extremely dry climate. It actually does have a drought. But to claim that a drought is occurring on this rainy, grey island where the air itself feels heavy with moisture most of the year and flowers grow rampantly seems a poor excuse for what must be another reason for not wanting to continue this lively, fun, and memorable tradition.

Please, please bring it back next year! Maybe a deal with golf courses to pause watering for a day to conserve enough to let the kids frolic and laugh again? Thank you!
