Disappointed In Decision To Hold Fourth Of July Water Fight

Curtis Barnes •

To the editor: It is disappointing that the Town of Nantucket has decided to hold the July 4 water fight, despite the fact that the entire state is in a drought condition.

Although the water is to be "imported" from a private well from off-Island, the state owns all of the water in the Commonwealth, so the water is still coming from a public water supply.

Instead of showing our neighboring communities that we have "elite" status, and that the rules don't apply to us, the Nantucket community should take a leadership position in supporting state regulations at this difficult time, and rescind the decision to hold the water fight this year.
