Island Students Call For Better Wi-Fi Aboard Hy-Line Cruises

To the editor: Seventy percent of Nantucket High School students participate in athletics, spending around three hours traveling by boat per game. As a student athlete on Nantucket, I have noticed that the lack of reliable Wi-Fi on the Hy-Line is a serious problem for me and other student athletes.
Without Wi-Fi, we struggle to do schoolwork on game days. We leave school during lunchtime (missing our last two classes), take an hour ferry ride, and then a long bus ride. After games, we return home between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., still needing to shower, eat, and catch up on schoolwork. This leads to late nights and tired school days. With reliable Wi-Fi, we could finish our homework on the Hy-Line.
Student-athletes should be able to enjoy playing our sport without lacking sleep or worrying about grades. However, the Hy-Line does not want to make this change. I reached out to many people for information and got little to no responses. The responses I did get were indifferent. A significant percentage of our student population is impacted by something that should be easily fixable. If you think you can help or support in any way, it would be appreciated. Please reach out to me.
Thank you,
