Let’s Stop With The Economic Scare Tactics On Article 2

Carl Jelleme •

To the editor: We keep hearing that there will be economic armageddon if Article 2 passes. However, is any island business going to lose a dollar due to the proposed restrictions of Article 2? Absolutely not. No charter boat is going to lose a trip (providing they can catch a fish) and Cru certainly isn’t going to sell one less lobster roll, nor is the town going to lose any tax dollars… that is utter nonsense.

There is STR capacity on the island to meet the demand of renters, once an operator reaches their quota others will pick up the slack, the load will be spread and give neighbors and neighborhoods a break from the constant commercial churn. The market will adjust.

Article 2 also allows for a property that is owner-occupied to rent your cottage or house without any restrictions. Let’s stop with the economic scare tactics. Article 2 is reasonable and will be good for our island economy.

Sincerely,

Carl Jelleme
