RIP Kevin

To the editor: We would like to extend a thank you to the folks at Miacomet who held a send-off for Kevin Ryan this past Sunday. My wife and I were a little surprised that we didn't know many people, but came to realize that Kevin's society was Miacomet, and our relationship with Kevin was completely outside of that.

We first met Kevin when he was shingling a neighbor's house. Then we would stumble over him on his job sites as we walked our dogs all over town. We would always stop and chat, talking about pretty much everything. When we needed some shingling work on our house we texted Kevin with "Hey, when you can fit us in could you...", and he showed up at 7 the next morning. That was Kevin. When our friends asked for someone for shingling we would give them Kevin's contact information with the caveat that "He chooses who he works for." That was Kevin.

We won't miss Kevin's presence day-to-day as so many at Miacomet will, but we will miss our occasional time spent with a well-read, gentle, kind, and very independent Nantucketer.
