Small Friends Thanks GHYC For Support

To the editor: On behalf of Small Friends on Nantucket, I am writing to express our sincere gratitude to the membership of Great Harbor Yacht Club for stepping up in support of our school. While the initial contemplation of GHYC’s racquet facility expansion naturally raised concerns for Small Friends, we are delighted to share that GHYC has lived up to its word, demonstrating its commitment to cooperation and becoming a valued partner in the months since.

To celebrate our growing partnership and the opening of GHYC’s expanded racquet facilities, I am thrilled to announce our jointly-organized Pickleball Tournament & Online Auction on Friday, August 30, 2025, with proceeds benefiting Small Friends.

This generous gesture is more than just a fundraiser; it's a vital effort to raise awareness about Small Friends and our mission among Nantucket's year-round and seasonal population. The Great Harbor Yacht Club's commitment to our community's youngest members is truly commendable, and their willingness to open their facilities to the community for this occasion means the world to us. Beyond the tournament, we are grateful for GHYC’s commitment to awarding an annual scholarship for a deserving family, assisting us with ongoing grounds work, and helping to further streamline our abutting properties.

Small Friends on Nantucket provides essential early-childhood education and care, playing a crucial role in supporting working families and ensuring a strong foundation for our island's future. We are currently undergoing a critical capital project to make much-needed repairs and improvements to our school facilities. Our operating budget relies deeply on the generous giving of many members of our community, and the incremental funds raised at this event will be instrumental in helping make many of these vital projects possible.

We encourage everyone to mark their calendars for August 30th and consider participating in or supporting this fantastic event. Your involvement will directly contribute to the well-being and development of Nantucket's children.
