The Current's Five-Year Anniversary: Message From The Publisher

Bruce A. Percelay •

When we launched the Nantucket Current five years ago, it was with the expectation that we could provide the island with more timely news in a format that would allow readers to consume information easier and faster. Little did we know that within a remarkably short period of time, the Current would emerge as the leading news source on the island.

Indeed, we are proof that the digital revolution has changed the way we communicate, and not only do we now reach over 20,000 subscribers, but between other digital platforms our reach is in excess of 100,000 people, including from states as far as California.

While we celebrate our fifth year in existence, we believe that it is important that traditional newspapers like The Inquirer and Mirror still play an important role in the public’s choice of news vehicles. Newspapers, both locally and nationally, are under pressure in today’s digital world, but they remain important providers of news and information. There is still a place for the world of print, which is demonstrated by the durability of N Magazine, which will be celebrating its 25th anniversary next year and is on track for a record-breaking season. Quality content should rule the day, whether it is delivered on paper or a portable device, and we are all richer for having both options serving the Nantucket market.

Thanks to an incredibly dedicated staff of hardworking writers, reporters, editors, photographers, and designers, the Current has risen to levels beyond our expectations, and we want to thank you, our readers, for your trust and loyalty.

Sincerely,

Bruce A. Percelay
