Obituary: Burr Tupper, 1967 - 2024

Burr William Tupper, 57, of Los Angeles passed away unexpectedly on November 11th at his residence. He was born on October 5th, 1967. Burr spent his childhood in Harvard, MA and attended the University of Massachusetts. He traveled extensively and eventually made his home on Nantucket, MA from 1997 to 2016. Burr started his own design and build company, Verde Nantucket Green Build and was one of the first construction firms to become LEED certified on Nantucket. He was a member of the Nantucket Zoning Board of Appeals.

Burr was involved with the local Nantucket, MA chapter of Habitat for Humanity, helping to construct numerous homes for low-income families, as well as the Meals on Wheels program. He was also the primary caretaker of the Nantucket Yoga room where he practiced Yoga daily and participated in many different organizations including the Shambala Meditation Group, and Outrigger Canoe Club.

Burr left a large group of friends in 2016 to relocate to Los Angeles, CA and continued Verde Building Co. with his partner Ryan Nelson.

Burr is predeceased by his mother, Sarah Ann Tupper and is survived by his father Burr Marshall Tupper and Stepmother Mary Weiss of Winchester, VA. His sister Heather Heiser and husband James Heiser, nephews Jakob and Nikolaus of Davidson, NC. His brother Nathaniel Tupper and wife Whitney Welch, nieces Charlotte, Jocelyn, Virginia, Emerson and nephew Burr Hunter of Longmeadow, MA. His Stepbrothers Travis Weiss, of Helena, MT, Eric Weiss and family of Austin, TX, Benjamin Weiss and family of Ashburn, VA, and Stepsister Jennifer Weiss of Burlington, VT. Burr had a special relationship as a father figure to Griffin Marcoux. Burr leaves behind his partner Brianna Allen and many close friends as well as all his buddies in the Los Angeles, CA area Paddling & Outrigger communities and local Cycling crew.

He was very proud of his many years of sobriety and participated and mentored in AA programs in both Nantucket and Los Angeles. Burr William Tupper was an intensely passionate and kind individual who grew and nurtured friendships wherever he went. He was athletic, curious, well read and embraced new hobbies with excitement and commitment. His zest for life was unique and always contagious.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Unitarian Church on Sunday, December 15th at 3 p.m. followed by a reception at The Gaslight.

In his home was a daily prescription for life to ‘Always remember: 1. Trust God, 2. Clean house and 3. Help Others.’
