Photos: Nantucket Pride Parade

June is Pride Month, and island residents gathered on Sunday for a car parade and other festivities to kick off a series of celebrations to be held this month.

Pride Month, observed each June, is a celebration of LGBTQ+ identity, history, and rights that commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City, a pivotal moment in the fight for LGBTQ+ equality.

On the island, the Nantucket Pride group is spearheading a series of events and gatherings to observe Pride Month.
