Since 2015, Nantucket's thriving Bulgarian community has operated a small school where the island-born children of Bulgarian immigrants learn the language and culture of their parents' eastern European country.
The Bulgarian Education Center operates out of the First Congregational Church, serving children as young as two through their high school years to augment the education they receive at Nantucket's public and private schools and "preserve the Bulgarian language and culture in our children."
On Saturday, June 8th, the Bulgarian School held its year-end show and graduation ceremony at the White Heron Theatre on "Saints Cyril and Methodius Day" which marks the significance of the Bulgarian language and the Cyrillic alphabet.
