What is the best part about being a police officer on Nantucket?

The best part about being a Nantucket Police Officer is having the opportunity to work with a younger department as well as the variety of other agencies that come to the island at different times for certain events.

What is it like to be a female in a traditionally male-dominated profession?

I dont really notice a difference to be honest. We aren’t treated any differently by our male colleagues.

Are there ways in which the public interacts with you as a female police officer differently than your male counterparts?

At times depending on the call it may ease the situation with a female officer present however there are times where having a male officer present helps as well.

During my time as a detective I did feel as though having a female detective for certain cases was helpful when the victim was also a female.

Has it been gratifying or rewarding to see the number of female officers at NPD continue to grow over the years?
