94 Main Street, an historic island property built in 1846, has changed hands and was sold for over $15 million Tuesday morning to John E. Kozlowski, Trustee of 94 Main Street Nominee Trust by Nomor LLC, which lists Anne C. O’Neil as the manager.

The Hadwen-Wright House, also known as the Wright Mansion and “Two Greeks” was built by whale-oil merchant William Hadwen and designed by local builder-architect Frederick Brown Coleman, who also designed other historic buildings on Nantucket including the Methodist Church on 2 Centre Street in 1840 and the Atheneum on 1 India Street in 1847.

The home was newly renovated in 2016 and features 12 rooms, five beds, six full baths and one half bath – featuring amenities such as a deck, patio, and garden. The home was on the market for 83 days after being listed on August 5th through Maury People Sotheby’s International Realty for $15.5 million. The property is .10 acres and has an assessed value of $7,509,600. It was last sold in 2014 for $4.7 million.

The Nantucket Preservation Trust has the following entry on their website further detailing the property’s history:

“Every house has a history to tell, including 94 Main Street, one of the grandest of the historic homes on island. Known affectionately as one of the Two Greeks, this stately house was constructed in the Greek Revival style and completed in 1847. The building of the house must have been an optimistic sign to islanders at a time when the whaling economy was suffering and the Great Fire had just destroyed a large portion of the town. The house was the last true mansion constructed by a prosperous whale-oil merchant. The Hadwen-Wright house was completed in 1847 and is considered the finest and most lavishly decorated examples of Greek Revival-style domestic architecture on Nantucket.”
