Bailey Lower Named To U.S All-American Team

There isn’t much that Nantucket junior midfielder Bailey Lower has failed to accomplish through her first three years on the NHS varsity girls lacrosse team. She has helped her team make back-to-back state quarterfinal’s appearances, including a state semifinal appearance last year, and next season will likely score her 300th varsity goal midway through next season after scoring over 115 goals this year alone.
But Lower just earned a new honor, one that anoints her as one of the region’s best girls lacrosse players. She was named to the USA Lacrosse All-American Team. USA Lacrosse describes anyone named to this team as a player who exhibits superior skills and techniques and possesses exceptional game sense and knowledge.
“A USA Lacrosse All-American is one of the best players within their respective area of the country, while also embodying excellent sportsmanship,” the organization says.
Lower said this has been a goal of hers since she was a freshman. She said she is honored to have that accomplishment to her name now and but already has her eyes set on next season as she hopes that her game only continues to grow from here.
“I really want to get to the championship game and maybe win it all,” she said. “I think we are definitely capable of doing that. We worked really well together as a team this year and if we keep making new plays and become a unit, I think we can get really far.”
It is her teammates and her ability to utilize the talent around her that Lower believes helped her take her game to the next level.
“This year I think I’ve been kind of a playmaker,” she said when asked how she felt her game improved. “I have gotten better field vision overall, which I am really proud of.”
Lower verbally committed to Vanderbilt University in September of 2022 and will continue her lacrosse career with the Commodores after her senior season next spring. While she plays hockey in the winter, she never stops playing lacrosse and gives it her year-round attention. This summer, Lower said she will be attending a Vanderbilt Lacrosse Camp as well as a pair of other club tournaments - so she will keep busy while continuing to sharpen her game.
“Even though our season is over, it will be fun playing more,” she said.
