Boston Bruins Alumni Game To Be Held On Nantucket In June

The Nantucket Ice Community Rink opened its doors 20 years ago and in June they will celebrate that milestone with a Boston Bruins Alumni Game that will feature names such as Andy Brickley, Andrew Raycroft, and Bob Sweeney.
"This is kind of the start of a fundraising campaign for the year," Devin Remick, President of the rink's board, said. "We are actually going to have the alumni splitting up so we will be playing with and against them. It is a fun situation because it is a fun game and the people who get to play get to play with and against these guys. They get to enjoy both aspects. It is more about being in the presence of these guys who were obviously unbelievable hockey players."
The game will be on Wednesday, June 22 at 4 p.m. There will be an event at Cisco Brewers later that evening with the Bruins.
Nantucket participants will be a mix of people who have given back to the rink over the years. From coaches to first responders to others across the island who have dedicated their time and energy to the rink, Remick said they are looking at this game as an opportunity to not only raise money for the rink but to also reward those who have helped the rink function and grow for two decades.
"The hockey community and a lot of the coaches will be skating," Remick said. "We want to get them involved in this because it is a thankless job to coach youth hockey and stuff. You don't get paid for it but you just love what you do and giving your time. So we want to give them the opportunity to skate with the Bruins. It is a good mix of people who have given back to the rink."
Remick said there are some capital projects they will need to take care of this year due to the age of the rink such as mechanical projects.
"It is a good opportunity because it is our 20th anniversary to jump on this and host an event like this. I still can't believe it has been 20 years since we opened our doors," Remick said. "I'm really looking forward to this. It has been a long time since we did something like this. Charity on Ice we stopped doing years ago. I have talked to Bob Sweeney a few times and I know he is really excited about coming back out. He was always someone who would come out for Charity on Ice. I think their excitement for coming back out is as big as us having them here."
