MIAA State Tournament Brackets Revealed, Boys Hockey & Boys Hoops To Host Games

The MIAA released the state tournament brackets for boys & girls hockey and boys & girls basketball on Saturday. The Nantucket boys hockey team, boys basketball team, and girls basketball team all qualified for the postseason. Their seedings, matchups, and the full bracket for each team is listed below.
Boys Hockey Near The Top Of Their Bracket
Despite a frustrating end to their regular season, the Nantucket boys hockey team has earned the #2 seed in the MIAA Div. 4 state tournament and will host St. John Paul II in the Round of 32. That game will take place on Friday, March 1st at 5:15 p.m.
The boys played SJP twice this season - so they will begin their tournament run against a familiar foe. In the first matchup on January 8th, they won 7-1 at home. In the second matchup one week later on January 15th, the Whalers won 6-1 on the road.
If the Whalers were to earn a victory over SJP, they will host either #15 Bourne (13-6-1) or #18 Abington (10-9-1). A date with Abington would be a rematch of last season's Round of 16 matchup, which the Whalers won at home 6-2.

Boys Basketball To Host Tournament Game In Round One
Like the boys hockey team, the boys hoops team didn't have the best of endings to their season - losing three of their final four games.
But the Whalers did enough throughout the course of the season to earn a home game in the Round of 32 after clinching the #14 seed with an 11-9 record. Nantucket will host either #19 Carver (13-7) or #46 Excel Academy Charter School (11-8).
Carver and Excel will face off on Tuesday, February 27 at 6 p.m. The Whalers did not play either Carver or Excel Academy during the regular season.
If the Whalers were to advance, they would face the winner of #3 Monument Mountain (20-0) and #30 Uxbridge (12-8)/#35 Ayer Shirley (16-4). Nantucket did not face any of those three teams in the regular season.

Girls Hoops Traveling To Uxbridge Today
The girls basketball team won 11 of their final 13 games of the regular season to earn a spot in this year's Div. 4 state tournament with a 12-8 record.
The Whalers clinched the #41 seed and will travel to face #24 Uxbridge in the preliminary round. That game is scheduled for today, February 26 at 2 p.m. The Whalers did not face Uxbridge during the regular season.
If the girls win on Monday, they would face #4 Millbury (17-5) in the Round of 32.
