The Nantucket boys lacrosse team earned a pair of blowout victories to begin the week. They followed up a 15-4 victory over Martha's Vineyard on Memorial Day with a 19-2 victory over the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins Tuesday afternoon in their final regular season home game. Tuesday was senior day for this senior class, and it is a class that head coach Sam Aloisi said has endured a lot throughout their high school careers.
“It is a good crew of guys,” Aloisi said. “Someone like George Boucher has been with us for five years and then guys like Justin Bloise has only been with us for one year. Then you have all the rest who are in between. A lot of them, their careers got screwed up with all of the COVID stuff but they came out of it in good shape.”
Cosmo Tedeschi led the Whaler’s offense with four goals and three assists.
Senior attacker Hudson Perry had three goals. Camden Knapp and Caiden Shea each had two goals.
But it wasn't just those four contributing. The offense came from everywhere on Tuesday. Aloisi said he was hoping to give his seniors a lot of playing time once the score got out of hand. They got their playing time and made the most of it.
Senior Cole Evens, sophomore Cole Chambers, sophomore Hunter Strojny, senior George Boucher, sophomore Colby O’Keefe, senior Dylan Ottani, sophomore Michael Culkins, and senior Raymond McClure each scored one goal.
WHALERS BEAT MARTHA'S VINEYARD 15-4
The Whaler boys lacrosse team beat Martha’s Vineyard 15-4 on Memorial Day. Nantucket welcomed a shorthanded Vineyard team to the island and quickly put the game out of reach by scoring eight first quarter goals.
Nantucket senior attacker Camden Knapp led the team with four goals while sophomores Cole Chambers and Jack Halik each had three.
“Basically what we were looking for today was for our guys to come out and play full speed because we knew the Vineyard was down a bunch of guys,” head coach Sam Aloisi said. “Their goalie is their best player and hasn’t played for a while and they had some guys who weren’t available. Our guys to their credit came out and played their game.”
With just one regular season game remaining on Wednesday, June 1 against the St. John Paul II Lions at 3:30 p.m., Aloisi said he feels good about their game heading into the state tournament. The final rankings will be released on Friday, with tournament play beginning next week. Nantucket is currently 8-9 this season but ranked #9 in the latest Div. 4 tournament standings.
