Boys Soccer Loses To East Boston

The Whaler boys soccer team hosted East Boston High School Saturday afternoon and lost 2-1 in a competitive match. Stoyan Popov scored the only goal for Nantucket in the second half and also had one called back in the first half after being called offside. He now has three goals in his first two games this season.
"I expected them to be good," Whaler head coach Rich Brannigan II said. "I kind of expected that type of player, that type of team mentality out of the game. For us. it is a game that we can learn a lot from as long as the boys don't twist the knives on themselves because, you know, they're too hard on each other or they start pointing fingers. The loss stung for the first few minutes after the game, but then we kind of circled up and had a positive conversation before we left the field. That's the kind of game you want. We could have won the game 1-0 or we could have tied it 2-2. It was a game that was good for both teams, I think. We want to play those kinds of games. It won't hurt us in the long run, and it should only make us stronger. So that's what we're looking for.”
Nantucket is now 1-1 and they will be back in action on Wednesday, September 10th at 4 p.m. on the road against the Nauset Warriors. Below are some photos from Saturday’s game taken by Chris Tran.
