The Whaler girls lacrosse team beat the Barnstable Red Hawks 14-6 Tuesday afternoon to improve their record to 11-3 this season.
Nantucket began the game on fire offensively, scoring the first eight goals. But Barnstable was able to claw back and make it an 8-2 game at half and 8-3 with an early second half goal. Mayson Lower put a stop to the bleeding when she found her sister, Bailey, for a goal to make it 9-3.
From there Nantucket never looked back. Emerson Pekarcik scored a team-high six goals. Cydney Mosscrop scored four, Bailey Lower scored three, and Evelyn Fey scored one.
Mimi Belanger added 8 saves.
The Whalers have an extremely busy week ahead. They’ll be storm catching on Wednesday when they travel to Sturgis East to take on the Storm at 4 p.m., will host St. John Paul II on Thursday at 4 p.m., and will travel to Martha’s Vineyard on Saturday for an 11 a.m. game.
