The Nantucket High School Athletic Department announced Tuesday evening that they have hired the Nantucket Community School’s aquatics coordinator, Isabelle Roberts, as the next varsity boys and girls swim head coach. Roberts is an island native with deep ties to the local swimming community as NHS swimming alum.
Athletic Director Travis Lombardi said Roberts brings a great deal of experience as a competitive swimmer, coach, and aquatics professional.
“We are confident that her experience, passion for swimming, and connection to the Nantucket community will create positive opportunities for our swimmers both in and out of the pool,” Lombardi said in a release. “A 10th-generation Nantucket local, Roberts began swimming with the Nantucket Dolphins at the age of seven before continuing her career with the Nantucket Whalers from 2013–2017.

"She went on to compete at the collegiate level at Division II Assumption University, specializing in breaststroke and individual medley events. Roberts still holds the Nantucket Whalers’ 200 IM record, set in 2017. Isabelle has served as an assistant coach for both the Nantucket Dolphins and Westmoor swim teams, while also spending several years teaching youth group and private swimming lessons. Since June 2025, she has served as the Aquatics Coordinator at the Nantucket Community Pool.”
Roberts said she is “beyond excited” to be the head coach of the varsity swim team and grateful for the opportunity to give back to the program that played such an important role in her development as a swimmer, and as a person.
“I wouldn’t be who I am today without both the club swim team and high school swim team on Nantucket,” Roberts said. “I’m looking forward to being part of the team’s journey as they grow as swimmers and as people.”
