Photos: Football Hosts Mashpee In Sunday Matinee
David Creed •
It was a disappointing result for the Whaler football team Sunday afternoon at home against Mashpee High School. They lost to the Falcons 40-7.
The Whalers were unable to score in the first half, but held Mashpee to 16 points after two quarters to keep themselves within striking distance. But the Falcon's exploded for 24 points in the third quarter to break the game open and enter the final quarter leading 40-0.
Sophomore wide receiver Eli MacIver had the Whaler’s lone touchdown of the day on a pass from freshman quarterback Burke Lombardi midway through the fourth quarter.
Nantucket is now 1-2 through three games. They beat Cardinal Spellman 14-7 in their season opener at Vito Capizzo Stadium on September 7, lost to the Carver Crusaders on the road 26-15 on September 14, and now lost to Mashpee.
The Whaler's next game is scheduled for Saturday, September 28 at home against the Sandwich Blue Knights (2-0) at 3 p.m.
