The Whaler softball team may not make the Div. 4 state tournament this season, but that didn't let them stop them from traveling to Barnstable and picking up a 14-7 win over the Red Hawks Thursday afternoon.
Four Whaler players had three hits on the day, including senior shortstop Raegen Perry, senior pitcher Maclaine Willett, senior center fielder Caroline Correia, and sophomore left fielder Sydney Ard. Ard also had a team-high three RBIs.
Nantucket scored three runs in the first inning and were relatively quiet until the sixth inning when they scored six runs. They took a 14-2 lead into the final inning and held off a Red Hawk lineup that was gaining some momentum after knocking in five runs in the seventh inning.
The Whalers will close out their season on Saturday when they travel to Martha's Vineyard for a 1 p.m. game.
