The girls lacrosse team earned a 14-6 victory over Div. 1 Bridgewater-Raynham on the island Tuesday afternoon and senior midfielder Bailey Lower secured a very special milestone along the way – notching her 500th career varsity point.

Lower has been stellar once again this season and was sharp on Tuesday. She had nine goals and two assists. She now has 503 points in her career.

The overall performance by the Whalers wasn’t to their satisfaction, however. After a sluggish first quarter, Nantucket still led 5-2. The second quarter was easily the strongest for the Whalers and they took an 11-3 lead into the half. Nantucket head coach Jami Lower said she felt the fourth quarter was their worst.

Lower said she felt her team's passing was sloppy and that they need to grow and learn from the mistakes made in Tuesday’s game moving forward. She said she loved seeing some of the secondary offense from players such as seniors Evy Stahl and Cydney Mosscrop.

Aside from Lower’s nine goals, Mosscrop, Stahl, senior Emerson Pekarick, junior Mayson Lower, and sophomore Dylan Damian each scored one goal.

The Whalers are now 8-0 this season and are currently ranked as the #2 seed in the latest MIAA Div. 4 state tournament bracket. They will attempt to improve their record to 9-0 when they travel to Falmouth on Thursday, May 2 for a 3:15 p.m. game. The Clippers are currently 5-5 and the #9 seed in the Div. 3 state tournament bracket.

For a second consecutive match, senior Sam Iller (#3 singles player) did not finish his game due to lack of time because the team needed to catch the boat home. Head coach David Cheever said Iller will finish his match when the Navigators come to the island on Wednesday, May 8.
