Cross-Country Opens Season Against Sturgis West, Nauset in T
ri-Meet

The Whaler cross-country team began their fall season with a road tri-meet which included the Sturgis West Navigators, which they lost 31-26, and a race against the Nauset Warriors, which they lost 18-37. Below are the times for each Nantucket runner.

Freshman Michael Sullivan ran a 19:16.

Senior Dorian Manov ran a 20:29.

Freshman Hayden Roberts ran a 20:34.

Freshman Jimmy Fuller ran a 20:46.

Sophomore Morry Cardona ran a 21:00

Assistant head coach Garry Allen said he always loves the opening race of the season because it gives the team a baseline.

"The first race of the season is just that, the start of the finish result is the end of the season," Allen said. "We had seven runners in the top 20 so we like the grouping. We just have to progress throughout the season. Mike Sullivan, who ran a 19:16, was the top runner today followed by Dorian Manov, Hayden Roberts, Jimmy Fuller and Morry Cardona. We also had two girls compete today - Grace Hanlon and Anna Cronin - who placed fourth and fifth out of 21 runners.

Allen said they currently only have four female runners, and only two traveled on Tuesday.

"We are looking for a couple more young women to join our team," he said. "If there are any young ladies not doing a fall sport, consider coming down to the track at 3 o’clock to talk to the coaches, we would love the opportunity to talk to you."

The Whalers next meet is scheduled for Tuesday, September 16th at home against the Rising Tide Herons at 4 p.m.
