This week’s Current Court Report includes arraignments and dispositions from Monday’s Nantucket District Court session, as well as the arraignment of an island resident on Friday that resulted in the man being held in jail on dangerousness.

Mark Spencer Dickens, 37, of Nantucket was arraigned on April 3rd charges of assault & battery on a family/household member and strangulation/suffocation, as well as three April 10th charges of violating an abuse prevention order. He had not-guilty pleas entered on his behalf and was ordered to be held in the Barnstable House of Corrections without bail by Nantucket District Court Judge James Sullivan following a request by the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s office that he be held on dangerousness because they deemed him to be a danger to the alleged victim/island community.

Dickens was ordered to return to court on Wednesday, April 16th in Barnstable District Court for another dangerousness hearing, and Sullivan once again said that the prosecutors met the criteria for Dickens to be held on dangerousness citing that the victim had visible injuries while at the police station, struggled to speak which was consistent with strangulation, and that text messages reviewed indicated that Dickens was a danger to the victim. He was ordered to be held for up to 120 days in jail, and was ordered to return to court May 22nd for a pretrial hearing.
