An island resident was arraigned in Nantucket District Court Monday morning on charges that allege he raped a female victim at his home in June 2024.

Henry Huyser, 43, of Nantucket was arraigned on two charges of rape. He had not-guilty pleas entered on his behalf. Huyser was released on his personal recognizance after the Cape & Island’s district attorney's office did not request bail. The conditions of his release were that he stay away and have no contact with the alleged victim.

According to Huyser’s attorney Jim Merberg, Huyser also had firearms he owns transferred out of his possession at the request of Nantucket Police Department detective Jimmy Olson. A probable cause hearing was scheduled for May 19th.

According to the police report, the alleged victim went to Huyser’s home on June 9th, 2024 in the late afternoon. They allegedly began “fooling around” before the victim eventually told Huyser she “didn’t want to go all the way.” Huyser allegedly initiated multiple sex acts which prompted the victim to push his arm away multiple times. The alleged victim then told investigators that Huyser had sex with her against her will and that she “froze and was unable to move." The report states that Huyser then "observed her face and got off from on top of her."

Detective Olson initiated the investigation on January 6, 2025, after receiving a "report of a past sexual assault from the victim," and interviewed the woman on February 28, 2025, about the incident. Huyser was not arrested but was issued a summons to appear in court for arraignment on the charges.
