Rohan Alrick Black, 41, of Nantucket pleaded guilty to two Sept. 16th, 2024 charges of photographing an unsuspecting nude person. He was sentenced to 18 months in the Barnstable House of Corrections on both charges to be served concurrently, however the prison sentence will be suspended for one year on the condition he complete the probation without any violations and stay away from the alleged victim.
If Black were to violate his probation, he would need to begin his 18 month jail sentence.
According to the police report, Black recorded a woman in his bedroom while she was not wearing any clothes – using a camera mounted in the upper corner of his bedroom.
The victim told police she knew there was a camera in the bedroom and told Black she didn’t want to be recorded. Black told the victim that the camera did not work. Both the victim and Black were in the room during the recording, which was about five seconds long.
The victim was in attendance for the court session and gave a statement to District Court Judge James Sullivan, asking for a punishment not out of revenge, but one that would ensure justice and that would allow her to move forward. She said Black had been a close friend, and that he violated her trust.
