Man In ICE Detention After Arrest For Allegedly Following Woman On Easton Street And Committing Lewd Acts

An island resident was arrested over the weekend for allegedly following a woman downtown and proceeding to take his shirt off, "hump" a white fence, and masturbate in front of her before two bystanders helped her escape from the scene.
Etienne Gregoire Freire Pavie, 43, was arraigned Monday in Nantucket District Court on three May 17th charges of lewd, wanton and lascivious conduct. He had not-guilty pleas entered on his behalf and had his bail set at $500 cash, $5,000 surety on the condition he remain alcohol free with screens. He was ordered to return to court July 8th for a pretrial hearing.
Pavie was initially held over the weekend on $2,000 cash bail. He was picked up by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the courthouse Monday afternoon immediately after his arraignment, and is a Brazilian national.
According to the district attorney’s office during the bail hearing, police were dispatched to Easton Street at approximately 7:20 p.m. Saturday evening for the report of a male wearing a pink shirt and white shorts masturbating in public. Police eventually found the individual matching the description and noticed he appeared intoxicated and had an odor of alcohol emanating from him. Police said in the report his demeanor “continued to change throughout their interactions.”
The reporting party told police that Pavie was walking behind her when she was approached by an uninvolved individual who asked the woman if she was okay because Pavie was allegedly acting strangely behind her.
When the alleged victim turned around, Pavie allegedly took his shirt off, started "humping" a white fence, and began to make masturbation motions over his clothes.
“He was pointing and looking at her making her uncomfortable,” Cape & Islands assistant district attorney Shaunna Souve told the Judge during the bail hearing. “It was at that time she called her sister and her boyfriend to come down to the scene. She then got in their vehicle and (Pavie) started walking away. That’s when they followed the individual and called the police. While the defendant was walking away, the boyfriend and sister also saw similar actions by the defendant that appeared to be masturbating. His pants were around his thighs. He was yelling comments at individuals, including the two parties. It's a busy time of night with nice weather on Nantucket. This was a random incident which three individuals observed, made them seemingly uncomfortable.”
According to the police report, the three witnesses of the incident told officers they saw him masturbating and touching his genitals while his pants were at his thighs. The boyfriend told police that once they arrived at the alleged victim's location, Pavie began yelling "what the f*** you want with me, what the f*** you want with me."
Police observed a photo taken by the alleged victim, which matched the individual they took into custody, which was Pavie.
Pavie was already scheduled to appear in court on July 8th as he is facing Nov. 8th, 2024 charges of assault & battery on a police officer and assault & battery. He was arraigned on those charges on Nov. 12th, 2024.
