The Nantucket Police Department seized more than $250,000 worth of cocaine from a Youngs Way residence Friday afternoon following the execution of a search warrant, and arrested a 31-year-old man on drug trafficking charges.

It is believed to be the largest cocaine seizure in island history.

Police descended on the home at approximately 2:19 p.m. on Friday, as the NPD detective and patrol divisions executed the search warrant at 15 Youngs Way. They discovered approximately 2,574 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine (5.67 pounds) inside the residence.

The suspect was identified as Francisco Fernandez Sanchez, 31, who was arrested without incident. He is being charged with trafficking cocaine, 200 grams or more. The estimated street value of the cocaine confiscated is $257,400, the department stated.

“The search warrant and subsequent arrest was the result of an extensive investigation conducted by the Nantucket Police Department Detective Division,” the police said in a press release. “We want to extend our thanks to the Drug Enforcement Administration Cape Cod Regional Office and the Massachusetts State Police for their support throughout the investigation.”

Sanchez will be arraigned in court on Monday, February 10th. This story will be updated.
