Suspect Arrested In Machete Assault On Cliff Road

An alleged assault with a machete at a job site on Cliff Road Tuesday afternoon led to the arrest of an island resident on a felony charge.
Nantucket police officers, EMTs and a Massachusetts State Police Trooper responded to a job site at 38 Cliff Road around 2:20 p.m. for a report of a disturbance.
They discovered a victim with a laceration, according to an emergency radio dispatch, and arrested the alleged assailant Somers Simeon Donaldson, 62, on a single charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Sources told the Current the weapon in question was a machete. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and did not require transport to the hospital.
Donaldson was arrested and later released on $500 bail. He will be arraigned in Nantucket District Court next week.
