The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts announced Friday morning that the apparent target of the federal arrest warrant executed Thursday morning on Nantucket was one of nine individuals taken into custody by federal authorities across the state as part of an investigation into the 18th Street Gang, a transnational crime organization, that has been operating in and around the North Shore area of Boston.

John Lee Angel, 31, of Hooper Farm Road, was arrested and charged with federal drug offenses. The FBI alleges that approximately 100 grams of suspected cocaine and approximately $25,000 cash were recovered from his Hooper Farm Road residence on Nantucket during a search at the time of his arrest. According to the FBI, he is also being charged with distribution of and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

Angel’s arrest was accompanied by eight other individuals based out of Everett, Chelsea, and Lawrence who were apprehended and being charged with crimes ranging from distribution of fentanyl, drug trafficking, child abuse crimes (including rape of a child, posing a child in a state of nudity and possession of child pornography) and unlawful possession of ammunition.

“With this operation, the FBI’s North Shore Gang Task Force has removed alleged drug traffickers accused of pushing deadly poison onto our streets, hoping to avoid detection,” Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Boston Division, said. “This case highlights how the FBI and our partners at every level are working together to target criminals wreaking havoc and mayhem, just to make money and a name for themselves on the street.”
