The 11th annual Run For Robin 5K was held Sunday morning at the Sconset Casino with over 700 participants running and walking the course.
The race, which has become a staple of the offseason over the past decade, was started by the family of the late Robin Harvey, a beloved community member, volunteer, and co-owner of the Seagrille restaurant, who died in a tragic accident in 2015.
The Run For Robin 5K raises money for The Harvey Foundation, the non-profit organization founded to honor her legacy that provides scholarships and other initiatives for deserving student athletes who are moving on to further their education after high school.
A vast majority of these scholarship funds come from the 5K. Each participant was given a medal for participating in the race. A cookout was held at the casino after the runners completed the race.
The Harvey Foundation also announced they will be providing bags of books for kindergarten students ahead of the holidays and basketball shoes for the high school teams this winter.
The first-place runner this year was 27-year-old Matthew Phipps, the varsity cross country coach and indoor track coach for the high school. It was his third straight year winning the 5K, and he finished with a time of 15:45. On the women's side, Rachel Powers Daily placed first with a time of 20:21 (13th overall). The organization of the 5K is spearheaded by Adriene Lombardi, the daughter of Robin Harvey, as well as her husband, Travis Lombardi, who is the high school’s athletic director. Their children - Maddie, Burke, and Aubrey - also help with the organization of the event.
