The Nantucket Current has compiled a list of events and festivities taking place for Halloween on the island. If you have an event you would like included in the guide that is not currently in here, please email davidcreed@n-magazine.com.

Thursday, October 30th:

H'Owl Watch: Halloween Eve

Join MMA's Field Ornithologist Ginger Andrews as we listen for calls of a variety of nocturnal animals and birds during our special spooky edition Owl Watch program. Night-time has always had a mysterious appeal, which brings out a whole new cast of avian and other creatures. It requires patience, and a shift of consciousness from sight to hearing. We will watch and listen for owls as they begin their nightly activity. While an owl sighting is not guaranteed, you will certainly be able to observe several fascinating nocturnal animal species. Bundle Up, bring a chair, blankets, and prepare to be quiet and patient to comfortably sit and listen for Owls and other night time creatures. Friday, October 31st:

Spooky Garden At Flowers On Chestnut

From 10 a.m to 5 p.m., head by the Flowers on Chestnut as they are dressing up their Spooky Garden for the day and will offer treats and surprises throughout the day and early evening to the little goblins that come by and visit their Spooky garden. Location is 1 Chestnut Street.

Halloween At The Whaling Museum

From 3:30-6 p.m., trick or treat at the Whaling Museum (13 Broad Street). Stop by the Whaling Museum after the downtown parade to pick up some candy and take photos with Tony Sarg’s seamonster balloon “Morton” outside the Museum. This is a free and family-friendly event.

Halloween Parade, Costume Contest, And Downtown Festivities

The annual costume contest and parade is back for another year. Costumed adults and children are asked to arrive by 3:15/3:30 p.m. at the bottom of Main Street in front of the Ralph Lauren store for the costume contest, and then in preparation for the 4:00 p.m. start of the parade at the the base of Main Street. Main Street will be closed for these activities, please plan accordingly for traffic and parking. Please be mindful of crossing intersections at crosswalks, and keep an extra eye on young attendees. New this year, the Lieutenant Max Wagner Memorial Fountain will have tables set up nearby to distribute candy bags, as well as host the first annual carved pumpkin contest. Bring your carved pumpkin to Main Street on Halloween for consideration.

Spooky Walk: Downtown to Hinchman House

Celebrate Halloween the Maria Mitchell way—through science, nature, and a touch of spooky fun. After your downtown trick-or-treating adventure, meet an MMA Naturalist at the Pocket Park on the corner of Fair Street and Main Street, for a twilight walk to the historic Hinchman House Natural Science Museum. Along the way, you’ll explore the eerie side of Nantucket’s natural world—discovering animal adaptations that might just give you goosebumps, uncovering ghostly island lore, and completing a Halloween-themed nature scavenger hunt. You’ll even collect materials to create your own vampire bat leaf craft back at the museum. Once we arrive at Hinchman House, we’ll whip up a bubbling “witches’ potion” science experiment and learn about the myths and biology of bats—our misunderstood, nocturnal neighbors. Costumes welcome. Free Halloween Skate At Nantucket Ice

Head to the Nantucket Ice Rink at 10 Backus Lane for a free halloween skate and costume contest from 7-8 p.m. There will be free pizza and refreshments as well. This event is for grades 9-12.

Nantucket Dreamland's 5th Annual Halloween Party

Join the Nantucket Dreamland for their fifth annual Halloween Party on the second floor of The Dreamland from 7-10 m. Nantucket favorite DJ Lazyboy will be performing your favorite Top 40, classic, and holiday-themed hits to dance the night away to. Wear your favorite Halloween costumes and there will be a contest for the best dressed, with the winner taking home four tickets to the Dreamland's very special Christmas Stroll Party featuring the Hess Twins on Friday, December 5th. They’ll have a Step-and-Repeat for photos, along with a cash bar and some lite bites. This event always sells out, so get your tickets today. General Public: $43 ($40 + $3 Service Fee), Dreamland Members: $35 (No Service Fee). Age Requirement: 18 & Above, 21+ wristband.

A Special Halloween Edition Stargazing

From 7-8 p.m., join the MMA's professional astronomers for a special Halloween Edition Stargazing event at Loines Observatory. Get a chance to take an impressive tour of Nantucket's night sky. MMA staff will guide you in viewing astronomical objects through our historic 8-inch Alvan Clark refractor and their modern 24-inch research telescope. Get a chance to view the Moon, planets, star clusters, nebulae, and even other galaxies. Learn about the cutting-edge research being conducted by Maria Mitchell Observatory astronomers and interns and get all your astronomy questions answered. Nantucket Ghost Walk/Town Route

Join a 3/4 mile, 75-80 minute easy evening stroll down the eerie streets and lanes of historic Nantucket Town to five of the most famous haunted locations, featuring the island's most haunted house. Tour starts at 8 p.m. at Centre and Main, top of Main Street, in front of the brick bank building. Arrive 10 minutes early. The fee is $25 for adults (ages 20 to 64), $20 for seniors (65 and over), $15 for teenagers, $10 for kids ages 6-12. It is cash only and no reservations are necessary.

Halloween At The Muse

Head to the Muse at 9 p.m. on Halloween night for an experience of surprise, delight and pleasure. There will be a screening of the Nantucket version of Rocky Horror, featuring a titilating menagerie of local talent. It proceeds into a journey with three live bands from The Shack. Best costume gets a special prize. Entry is $10 with a costume, $20 without a costume.

Weekend Crafting At Hinch: Witch's Lanterns

From 1-1:45 p.m., unleash your creativity at the Hinchman House Natural Science Museum. Join the MMA staff for nature-inspired crafting, where young makers and their families can explore the wonders of the natural world through hands-on projects. From building mini habitats to creating art inspired by local wildlife, each session sparks curiosity, imagination, and learning. Whether you're painting, assembling, or experimenting with natural materials, weekend crafting is a perfect way to engage with science, art, and nature all at once. Come curious, leave with a masterpiece. At least one adult must sign up with children. This program is designed to be interesting for children ages 3 and older. Pre-registration is required, which you can do here.

Spooky Saturday With Ty Fly At The Muse

Local musician Ty Fly is bringing 'Spooky Saturdays' to The Muse with his band, playing funky dancey rock-n-roll for a great cause, raising funds for A Safe Place! The Safe Place's non-profit mission is to work to eliminate domestic violence and sexual assault in the Nantucket community while empowering every woman, man and child to live a life free from violence. The evening will feature a raffle where you can win fun prizes from Ack Natural, including a Pax Vaporizer, a Vaporizer in the shape of a wizard pipe, t-shirts, hats, a $100 gift card to the store, as well as a behind the scenes tour of Ack Natural's facilities! Raffle proceeds will go to support A Safe Place. Showtime is 8:30 p.m. It is $5 entry, $10 for raffle tickets.

The November 1st show will be a costume party set in outer space, featuring a full-length performance of Ty Fly's funky story album 'Glass Maze: The Accidental Space Opera' which was released on Spotify and all streaming platforms earlier this year.
