After a nationwide search, Nantucket Radio announced this week that Doug Risher will be its new director of operations and production for the island’s broadcast radio station, 97.7 ACK-FM, and its companion, 89.5 WNCK-FM.

Risher will direct on-air operations and create the stations’ sound imaging, as well as anchor the 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. live on-air morning time slot at 97.7 ACK-FM, Mondays through Saturdays.

A native of Manchester, N.H., Risher worked at top local and regional radio broadcasting networks and stations throughout the U.S. He has extensive experience in the Midwest and New England hosting in-studio performances, celebrity interviews, original comedy segments, and listener communications; developing and managing promotional contests; and in commercial and programming interaction.

Prior to joining True Island Digital, Risher was the production director and an on-air anchor since 2015 for Saga Communications in Columbus, Ohio, with its group of stations including adult contemporary, classic rock, and classic hit song formats. He previously oversaw production and led on-air broadcasts for classic rock and country formats at Wilks Broadcasting in the Columbus area and for the Northeast Broadcasting group of stations in Vermont.

“As a native New Englander, I am so excited to return to my roots,” said Risher. “After honing my radio and production skills in a number of cities over the last 20 years, this is an incredible opportunity for me to bring my skill set back home. Not to mention, to be able to work in such a beautiful setting—it really is a dream come true.”

Laura Burnett, executive vice president of Nantucket Radio and publisher for True Island Digital, said, “Risher is a great addition to our staff leadership. He brings a level of experience and professionalism that will help us maintain our high quality of service to Nantucket and reach new levels of success.”
