All eyes have been on the weather forecast for Saturday throughout the week, and Chamber of Commerce executive director Peter Burke told the Current the car parade and all festivities will go on as scheduled, and he has been willing good weather vibes all week.

"We always advertise Daffy as rain or shine," Burke said. "We certainly understand heavy rains may limit some participation, especially talking about vintage cars and upholstery... However, due to the necessity to close Main Street, and the variety of local and state permits to run the parade, not to mention the advanced scheduling of public safety personnel, it's not a real possibility to move the parade."

“Our only asterisk would be for conditions like lightning or something we would need to hit the pause button for,” Burke continued. “We're willing the good weather vibes, even in the last 12 hours (on Wednesday) the heaviest rain has shifted to later in the day Saturday. Two years ago this happened too, and on Friday night everything shifted, and we had a beautiful parade.”

Island weatherman Blair Perkins, who has become the most trusted source for weather forecasts on Nantucket, has been providing updates on his Nantucket Weather page on Facebook. In his latest update Thursday evening, he said the forecast is “pretty much on track,” but an interesting development is emerging that bears watching.

“The higher resolution models show most of the rain passing to our north on Saturday,” Perkins said. “It’s too early to bite on that solution until it shows up on subsequent runs.”

Perkins said Friday, April 25th will be fine, with the possibility of fog even holding off until the late afternoon. He said as of now on Saturday, April 26th, forecasts currently predict scattered showers all day with a chance of heavier rain arriving around 1 p.m.

“At the same time, a brief period of marginal or above criteria winds arrives for two hours or so then diminishes,” Perkins added. He said Sunday will be blustery and boats will be okay to run again.
