Chicken Box Briefly Evacuated After Bomb Threat

The Chicken Box and the surrounding area on Dave Street were briefly evacuated Monday night after a man at the bar allegedly made a bomb threat.
Sources told the Current the suspect was inside The Chicken Box around 11:45 p.m. and just before leaving, he warned those inside that he would be returning with a bomb. Police were called to the scene to investigate while the establishment was evacuated and Dave Street was shut down. After searching the area, authorities determined there was no bomb or any kind of explosive device.
Police eventually made contact with the man and arrested him. Police have not yet released his identity nor the charges he will be facing, but it is believed he was released from custody and will be arraigned on Monday, March 18th in Nantucket District Court.
Nantucket Police Department Lt. Angus MacVicar did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment on Tuesday.
"It's certainly a crazy situation and our number one priority is to keep our employees and customers safe," Chicken Box co-owner Packy Norton told the Current. "The Nantucket Police Department and Nantucket Fire Department were lightning-fast in responding, our staff as well."
