The man who hit a $1 million scratch ticket on Nantucket is Jose Fontanez.
Fontanez, a Boston resident, was visiting his girlfriend on the island when he decided to buy a scratch ticket at the Old South Diner last week. He said he plans to use the winnings to purchase a house.
He bought a $10 ticket, the Massachusetts State Lottery's “$4,000,000 Bonus Bucks” instant game. Fontanez chose the cash option on his prize and received a one-time payment of $650,000 (before taxes).
The Old South Diner receives a $10,000 bonus for its sale of this ticket. The $1 million ticket also represents the largest prize ever won at Old South Diner.
The odds of winning one of the eight $1 million dollar prizes on the ticket was 1 in 2,016,000.
