Jill Vieth Withdraws From Crowded Select Board Race

Finance Committee member Jill Vieth, who had returned nomination papers to run for one of the two seats up for grabs on the Select Board in the upcoming town election, announced Thursday that she was pulling out of the race.
Vieth was among four challengers who entered the Select Board race to challenge the two incumbents: Matt Fee and Brooke Mohr. But on Thursday, Vieth released a statement stating she had withdrawn her candidacy and seemed to endorse Fee and Mohr.
“I went into this race hoping for an open seat," Vieth said in a statement shared with the Current. "With two active and engaged incumbents running I feel it’s prudent to keep that continuity on the ballot at this time."
Vieth's withdrawal from the races leaves Mary Chalke, Brook Gibbs, and Cliff Williams as the remaining challengers in the race. Vieth added that she would revisit running for a seat on the Select Board again in 2026 when current members Tom Dixon and Malcolm MacNab will be up for reelection.
“I’m a civics geek at heart so I love collecting signatures and listening to our year-round residents," Vieth said. "I am passionate about building community connection here. Serving on the Finance Committee and chairing the Capital Program Committee are commitments I truly enjoy. I intend to continue in these roles and revisit running for Select Board next year. In the meantime, I will make every effort to recruit year-round residents to town government boards, something vitally needed here, and hopefully create more community connection along the way.”
