"Epic Day" - Nantucket Charter Boat Topspin Lands A 1,000-Pound Bluefin Tuna

The Nantucket charter boat Topspin landed a giant 118-inch bluefin tuna off the island on Monday, a fish estimated to weigh more than 1,000 pounds.
"Epic day," Topspin captain Carl Bois summed up.
The fish was sold Monday afternoon to a wholesaler at the Hyannis Marina.
Bois said the catch almost didn't happen, as his clients on the charter were originally seeking a different kind of fish altogether.
"These guys wanted to go white marlin fishing," Bois explained. "After looking at the forecast, I talked them into going tuna fishing. Little did they know we'd be catching this sea monster - 1,000 pounds. They did a great job, including the patience needed to get it done."
Bois said the tuna weighed in at 800 pounds dressed (or gutted), which would mean it was likely 1,000 pounds or more. Aboard the boat for the catch was Bois's mate Eli Holland, who graduated from Nantucket High School in June. Holland is off to the College of William and Mary this fall to study marine biology.
