Nantucket Cottage Hospital Designated "Acute Stroke Ready" Hospital

Nantucket Cottage Hospital announced this week that it has been formally designated as an "Acute Stroke Ready Hospital" by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, effective January 1, 2026, recognizing the hospital’s ability to rapidly evaluate, stabilize, and initiate treatment for patients experiencing stroke.

Acute Stroke Ready Hospitals meet established standards to ensure emergency teams can quickly identify stroke symptoms, perform urgent imaging, begin time-sensitive treatment, and coordinate transfer to advanced stroke centers when needed.

“This designation reflects work that our teams have been doing for years,” said Amy Lee, the hospital’s president and chief operating officer. “Nantucket Cottage Hospital has always been prepared to respond when minutes matter most. This recognition affirms the expertise, coordination, and commitment of our clinical staff to deliver high-quality stroke care for our island community.”

"As the only hospital serving Nantucket, this designation strengthens timely access to emergency stroke care close to home while ensuring seamless coordination with regional partners when higher levels of care are required," the hospital stated in its announcement.
