Just three weeks ago, Nantucket's gas prices topped $5 per gallon at the outset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. They've only continued to increase since then.

Prices at island service stations ranged from $5.30 to $5.42 per gallon yesterday. The increases on Nantucket have continued despite nationwide gas prices decreasing slightly from their peak on March 11.

Nantucket has, by far, the highest gas prices in Massachusetts. When might they come down? Probably not anytime soon.

“Prices shoot up like a rocket, but fall back down like a feather ... Not nearly as quickly as we all would like to see," Mark Schieldrop, of AAA Northeast, told the Boston Herald last week.
