Nantucket Lighthouse School Expands To Sixth Grade, Adds New Preschool Class

The Nantucket Lighthouse School unveiled plans late last week to expand into middle school with the addition of a sixth-grade class set to start in the 2024-2025 school year, as well as the addition of a fourth preschool classroom. The expansion was announced to coincide with the school's 25th anniversary.
“Our expansion reflects the community’s desire for an educational option that fosters intellectual and ethical development,” said director of admissions and school counselor Julia Maury. “In our increasingly technology-centric world, many island families appreciate the research underscoring the benefits of reduced screen time, experiential learning, and a connection with nature.”
As part of the announcement, head of school Emily Miller announced that Caitlin Tyler will lead the new sixth grade.
“Caitlin brings much experience to this role, having a breadth of pedagogical knowledge as an upper elementary teacher at Nantucket Lighthouse School. She is a skilled curriculum developer whose creative and insightful approach reflects a deep understanding of the school's unique integrated curriculum,” Miller said.
The additional preschool classroom will add to the Lighthouse School's "Small School" program, which provides a project-and-play-based curriculum to children ages 2.9 through 5 years old.
