The Nantucket Police Department and Nantucket Fire Department both added to their ranks this week, announcing the arrival of new officers and firefighters, including several with island roots.
The Nantucket Police Department shared that Officer Caleb MacLean and Officer Michael Howard graduated from the Randolph Police Academy on Friday, Nov. 15. Howard is a Nantucket native, and MacLean's father Joseph McLean was a Nantucket police officer in the 2000s. Both will now begin a 14-week field training program with NPD before being allowed to commence solo patrol shifts around the island.
Meanwhile, the Nantucket Fire Department saw two new members graduate from the Massachusetts Fire Academy this week. Probationary firefighters Chris Bell and Aiden Roberts completed an intensive, 10-week program at the academy in Stow, Mass. Roberts and Bell were both born and raised on Nantucket. They will now return to NFD and work to complete their probationary requirements before becoming full-time members of the department.
